Iria: Zeiram the Animation |
Cool character design, eh? Actually it's one of the best aspects of this overall mediocre anime. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed this three-hour OVA. The problem is just that outside of the really cool looking characters (Iria and her brother, Gren), no particular area of this anime shines. The story is interesting, but not captivating. The animation is quality, but nothing special. I liked the action sequences, but the music left something to be desired. The designs for some of the weapons, technology, and vehicles were cool, but some just seemed off-the-wall and a little silly. But, that's part of anime, eh?
This anime tells the story of Iria, a spunky, careless bounty hunter-in-training apprenticed to her older brother Gren, a highly-skilled and renowned Hunter. When Gren receives a strange assignment from his superior Bob (his name is Bob, God, that kills me), Iria tags along despite Gren's order to remain at home. As our heroes soon find out, they have unknowingly been hired to retrieve Zeiram, a rampaging, nearly unkillable creature that can regenerate, reproduce, and assimilate nearly any organism or weapon into its physical makeup. Obviously not someone you or I want to mess with. Luckily, Iria and Gren have the skills and the arsenal to deal with such a threat, or do they..........? When all is said and done, this is a fine anime for an action/sci-fi fan looking for something in between a single movie and a full-length series. I give it a 7 out of 10.
